The big day is here. You took the time to shop at Roberts Carpet & Fine Floors and select the amazing carpet styles that will give your home the perfect comfortable feel inside. Then you coordinated with our expert installation team to pick a day to install your cozy, stylish floors and today’s the day. Thankfully, we reviewed our carpet installation checklist together well beforehand and there are no surprises. Not only will your carpet be installed professionally and efficiently, you will not stress for a minute. Preparation is one of our greatest assets in homeownership, and now your home is ready for gorgeous carpet.

Before Installation

As the calendar moves closer to installation day, we will need to review with you the large objects like furniture that will need to be removed from the rooms that are getting new carpet. Please make note of any items that require special care and consideration when they are moved. Also, you will need to empty the cabinets, drawers, and closets of these pieces of furniture before they are moved. We will also discuss with you how to dispose of your old floor covering once it is removed. These prep steps save both time and hassle for a smooth installation.

Have you thought about how the baseboards, woodwork, and paint may need to be touched up after installation? Have you made sure your subfloor is suitable for carpet installation? These are the types of questions that will help you prepare! Start prepping your subfloor now for the prime carpet conditions.  To be on the safe side, we will remove doors that may not clear the installed carpet and be ready to shave down doors to ensure clearance. Let’s develop a plan beforehand for discarded waste and carpet remnants that occur. All of these considerations minimize surprises and prevent stress.

During Installation

During Carpet Installation | Roberts Carpet & Fine Floors

When it’s actually time to install, you will need to be close by during this process. Our installation team will want to check in with you from time to time and you may need to answer questions. This way we are all on the same accord in regards to which carpet goes where if you have multiple styles going down. Unfortunately, each installation presents unique circumstances that make it difficult to predict the total time it will take to finish the job. We ask for your patience and flexibility during installation. Going through the process thoroughly will produce the best, long-lasting results.

We want your family as safe as possible, so they will need to avoid the work area completely during installation. This goes double for curious, friendly pets that we love, but can be harmed from tools as they are being used. When the carpet installation is near complete, let’s walk through and review the details together. This will provide a great opportunity for you to ask questions and feel completely satisfied. Now it’s time to give the rooms with new carpet adequate airflow by opening windows and running fans to create a breeze.  If your family is sensitive to odors, this will help dissipate the occasional odors that can come from chemicals used in the construction of carpet, adhesives, and seaming tapes.

After Installation

As you settle in with your new carpet, be aware of common post-installation issues that can occur. For instance, shedding is a natural process for new carpets and does not indicate an improper installation or an inferior product.  We recommend frequent vacuuming for the first few days after a new carpet installation to help remove loose fibers from the surface. If you notice any small tufts or loops of carpet that become visible after the installation, what we call sprouting, use a small pair of scissors to carefully trim the loose fibers so that they’re even with the rest of the carpet surface. The appearance of wrinkles or ripples is something you should call our professional team for. This is extremely rare, but in these instances, we can re-stretch the carpet to complete the installation. We are in this together and we will work until you are satisfied with your brand new carpet.
