About Karl:
My father owned a furniture upholstery shop and I worked there for 25 years. I am a master upholsterer. I can build a sofa or chair from the frame up. Diamond tufting, channel backs, antiques…anything. My father retired and the industry started to shift. I spent 8 years managing operations and the warehouse at a large furniture retail chain, and finally transitioned into flooring in 2004.
In 2010, at the conception of Quorum, Karl was presented with the opportunity to join at the ground floor. Roberts Carpet & Fine Floors was well-established in Houston, but this would be a new branch, focusing exclusively on new builds and developments working alongside other industry professionals. Karl’s well-rounded experience in the furniture industry uniquely qualified him for the position of Operations Manager, where he often coordinates construction for multiple multi-million-dollar developments simultaneously.
I managed everything at my dad’s (upholstery) shop – schedule deliveries, place orders, run the crews, etc. When I went to (chain furniture retailer) I was managing the whole warehouse staff…freight delivery, etc. I was in a position where I had to get things done. I was taught leadership skills and general good work ethic. Multitasking has permeated my mind. I am accustomed to doing multiple things at once, prioritizing and reprioritizing. I keep the balls in the air. I get a lot of that from my dad. Let’s do it. Let’s go. Let’s knock it down.
What is your favorite part of the job?
The people I work with.
What would you want your customer to know about you?
I genuinely care about your account and your needs. I want to always come through for you and am invested in your success.
Money is no object. What floors do you put in your home?
Solid, live sawn, unfinished walnut. Sand and finished, select grade (no knots), with long, wide planks. I would include some custom rhombus pattern-work with multiple species of wood. I would put carpet in the master bedroom – something with a subtle tasteful pattern, of very high quality, like Unique Carpets. I would add some rugs and runners for a warm, homey finish.
